Media Best Practices

These best practices are intended to serve as a guide for understanding the principles and technological issues surrounding the digital reformatting of dynamic media. They are not intended as a substitute for the advice of professional experts.

Recommends MJPEG 2000 wrapped in MXF or MOV; MPEG2 or H.264 common formats for access. MPEG2 is not good for editing or transfer over the web. H.264 is better for streaming over the web. For audio Yale recommends 16 bit / 44.1 KHz for simple voice recordings and higher rates for more complex audio. DV is good for editing and has high resolution, but not streaming
